Dear NSMLA Lacrosse Families,
We would like to start by thanking you for your patience while our Association has been working through the impacts of COVID-19 with its facility partners and governing bodies. While significant efforts are being made as to how to safely resume lacrosse activities, the BCLA have announced the cancellation of this Spring’s box season. Unfortunately, all lacrosse activities in the province remain suspended at this time.
Following the decision by the BCLA, the NSMLA board of directors met (virtually) to unanimously approve the refund to members of 100% of box registration fees. Over the week, we will be manually coordinating delivery of refunds. You will receive shortly a subsequent email with further details on the refund process. If you have questions regarding your refund, you should direct these to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Though we are able to offer refund of 100% of registration fees, it is important to note that we have had to use some of our cash reserves to do so. Prior to season commencement, the Association had paid a portion of our registration fees to the BCLA, which they have retained, a policy that we have opposed. In addition to these fees, the Association has paid for the training of some of our referees and coaches. We view the training of our referees and coaches as an investment in the Association’s future. We did not feel it was appropriate to pass these costs on to our lacrosse families.
The NSMLA are actively following the efforts of our governing bodies who are working with other provincial sporting agencies, and governmental regulatory agencies to safely shape guidelines for return to lacrosse play activities. The landscape of return to play is continuing to evolve, sometimes daily. We expect that as guidelines are approved and rolled out, we will see a phased approach to return to play. Specifically, we expect that when lacrosse programming is able to resume it may initially center on skills and training rather than game play as a result of physical distancing requirements. With field lacrosse season just around the corner, we will be monitoring the impacts of COVID-19 and check back with you when we have further details as to what this programming might look like.
We would like to close by thanking all of our box season volunteers, in particular, our coordinators and coaches who spent significant time and effort planning for the box season. Our Association depends on your valuable contributions so thank-you for this!
